Easley wins EASILY: Wayne Easley has won the runoff for Miller County Sheriff - beating Stephen Ward

Jun 22, 2022

Wayne Easley has won the runoff race for the Republican nomination for Miller County Sheriff with approximately 59% of the vote by beating Stephen D. Ward who won approximately 41% of the vote on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Easley won 1816 votes to Ward's 1265 in unofficial results. However, the margin of victory is so significant that a challenge would be unlikely.

David Wayne Easley celebrates his runoff election victory for Miller County Sheriff with family and friends on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

There is no other opposition, so Wayne Easley will become the next Sheriff of Miller County.

His response to the win

There was no doubt that Wayne Easley was thrilled on Tuesday night in front of a large group of supporters.

Easley said: "It is humbling to know that I have this many friends and family and let's thank the voters of Miller County."

He continued: "I am looking forward to serving. Thank you very much. I would like to thank all the voters in Miler County. Thank you for voting for me. Thank you."

Local endorsement's mattered

Easley was endorsed by Sheriff Jackie Runion and Chief Deputy Mark Lewis. The Chief Deputy was also the third-place finisher in the May 24, 2022, Republican primary election.

Stephen D. Ward was endorsed by Mike Huckabee and Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Former Gov. Huckabee said he had known Ward for more than 35 years.

A tough race

The runoff race had turned particularly ugly during the last two weeks. Allegations had been thrown around about both candidates, forcing them to respond.

A community forum was set up at the last minute, and Wayne Easley decided to attend while Ward sent a message that was read by Pastor Anthony Ware. However, Stephen Ward may regret not attending the forum as it would have provided him a chance to state his case.

Ward wishes Easley success

Nevertheless, both candidates ran spirited campaigns with plenty of enthusiasm. And Stephen Ward wished his opponent success as Sheriff. Click here to read about Stephen Ward's graceful exit from the race.

On May 24, 2022, Ward came out on top in a close three-way race - with Easley taking second place. But the positions changed on June 21 - with Easley victorious.

Now that Wayne Easley has won the runoff for Miller County Sheriff, he will be the next Sheriff of Miller County.

Sheriff Jackie Runion had decided not to seek re-election.
