Wayne Easley gets two BIG endorsements: Sheriff Jackie Runion and Chief Deputy Mark Lewis

Jun 16, 2022

Wayne Easley has received two highly sought-after endorsements for Miller County Sheriff - including the current Sheriff and the close third-place finisher who received a large number of votes.

Citizens of Miller County tend to respect the endorsement from a sitting Sheriff for his replacement. And Jackie Runion has given his support to Wayne Easley - making it crystal clear who he supports.

Sheriff Runion speaks

Runion said: "The Sheriff's number one responsibility is keeping the citizens safe. He is also tasked with managing a large jail and being fiscally responsible to the citizens he serves. I have spoken to Wayne at length in the last two days and feel Wayne Easley is a man who has the training, experience, and dedication to duty to serve the citizens of Miller County well."

"Please vote for Mr. Wayne Easley on June 21 in the upcoming runoff election," Sheriff Runion said.

The full-throated endorsement will excite supporters of Wayne Easley, who believe he is the candidate who will best represent them as Miller County Sheriff.

Mark Lewis wants his voters to choose Easley

The race for Miller County Sheriff on May 24, 2022, was a tight three-way contest between Stephen D. Ward, Wayne Easley, and Mark Lewis.

Lewis announced he was endorsing Wayne Easley in a letter. In bold print, he said: "I take this opportunity to endorse, without reservation, David Wayne Easley for the position of Miller County Sheriff."

He added: "I am a resident of Miller County and remain extremely concerned about the future of the Miller County Sheriff's Office and the Miller County Detention Center. I have no doubt that Wayne Easley can continue to move Miller County Law Enforcement in the proper direction."

Since the May 24, 2022 election, citizens were wondering who Mark Lewis would endorse as he received many votes that will be redistributed. So the Lewis endorsement is a big win for Wayne Easley, who will likely reach out to Lewis voters as Election Day approaches.

A heated election

This has not been a quiet race for Miller County Sheriff as we have previously reported. Click here to read the article. However, it had been relatively friendly until the runoff election. Rumors have been flying about each candidate. However, both Easley and Ward have been actively challenging assertions they say are false on social media.

Wayne Easley's support from the current Sheriff and Chief Deputy Mark Lewis makes the Ward vs. Easley election hard to call - especially since Sarah Huckabee Sanders endorsed Ward.

However, Wayne Easley has much to be happy about with the local, on-the-ground endorsements from local law enforcement officers, which could make the difference in a close race for Miller County Sheriff.

Election Day is June 21. A candidate forum will happen tonight (June 16, 2022) at the Church of the Living God in Texarkana, Arkansas at 6 pm.
