Kristi Bennett, the current police chief of the Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department (TAPD), has formally resigned effective July 6th, 2022. As police chief of Hot Springs Village, Bennett will return to her hometown with her family.
City Manager Jay Ellington said the City of Texarkana, Arkansas was sad to lose Bennett and reluctantly accepted her resignation.
"We are grateful for her years of service to our community. Her commitment to well-trained officers and staff coupled with her exceptional love for our city has made her an excellent chief," Ellington said. "We will miss her in our organization, but we wish her the best as she continues her career."
In 2005, Chief Bennett began her tenure with TAPD as a patrol officer and later was promoted to Public Information Officer, coordinating the department's PRIDE program, which provided much-needed outreach to the community's youth. The National Association of Police Organizations has recognized Bennett for her accomplishments at all levels, including the TOP COP award. Bennett served as Interim Police Chief in September 2020 before being named Chief of Police in March 2021.
Chief Bennett said it was an "honor and privilege" to be Police Chief of Texarkana, Arkansas, and work in the police department for 19 years.
"I will forever be grateful for the support of my agency, my city, and the citizens of Texarkana, Arkansas," Bennett said in her resignation letter.
A search for a new police chief will soon commence in Texarkana, Arkansas.
