A former Texarkana resident who now lives in Dallas as a first-term member of the Texas House is heavily projected to win Texas' District 30 U.S. House seat.
Jasmine Crockett, a well-known local lawyer, nearly won the seat outright with no runoff against 8 other opponents in the Democrat primary and about 48% of the vote. She will face her nearest rival, Jane Hamilton, in the May 24, 2022 runoff.
Jasmine Crockett is running to replace the retiring Eddie Bernice Johnson, and she was endorsed by the retiring Rep. Johnson.
Crockett's Texarkana friends remember her hard work and dedication to the community. Others will also not forget her giant billboards that showed the confidence that has allowed her to excel in Texas politics.
She said her focus will be on jobs, healthcare, and education.
Crockett still has a law office in Texarkana, and it is unclear whether it will remain open if she were to win the seat in Congress.
Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson said Crockett will bring "young energy to Dallas."
Everyone in Texarkana can attest to Crockett's energy - especially lawyers who opposed her in court.
The movement continues," Crockett said. "May 24th will be here before we know it."
Crockett will face a Republican challenger in November 2022 for the TX-30 U.S. House seat, which will be either James Rodgers or James Harris.
Jasmine Crockett currently serves as the representative for District 100 in the Texas House. She is a proud graduate of Rhodes College and the University of Houston Law School.
