Mortgage officer Jay Davis beat former EZ-Mart real estate director Mike Ingram on Tuesday night for the hotly contested Ward 6 Texarkana, Texas Ward 6 City Council seat.
Both candidates said they possessed unique qualifications for the council seat. However, Davis came out on top in the January 28 election by a vote of 401 to 326.
Late Tuesday night, Jay Davis addressed his supporters on social media and said thanks to everyone who supported him.
Mike Ingram was both classy and gracious in defeat. He immediately offered his full support to Davis.
"Sylvia and I would like to congratulate Jay Davis on his win for City Council," Ingram said. "This race was the closest race in recent history!"
According to Ingram, only four votes separated Davis and Ingram in early voting, so Davis' election day push was superior to Ingram. However, this contest was one of the closest City Council races in recent memory.
Ingram added: "We came into this race as underdogs, so I’m very grateful to all of you... We kept this race close."
Election day voting was held at Pleasant Grove Middle School from 7 am to 7 pm.
Davis had been seen as the favorite by most election watchers.
The new councilman's parents, Jack and Susan Davis, are among the pioneers of Pleasant Grove ISD. Davis has also been active in promoting his mortgage offerings on social media and recently had a sports commentary position that ended with a PG football state championship in December 2019.
Both Davis and Ingram were highly qualified, and local leaders seemed pleased that the race attracted two qualified candidates who were willing to fight hard in the race.
The two men each leave the race with enhanced reputations after a tiring but informative campaign.
